Bracebridge Library gets Prepared for the big move and temporary closure
50 Days to go before we say goodbye to the beautiful Carnegie Library location! We understand that the temporary closure of our Library may cause inconvenience, particularly during the summer months when families rely heavily on our programs and services. Please be assured that the decision to close for this period was carefully considered and is essential to facilitate a safe and efficient move to our new home at the Coulson Family Bracebridge Library in the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre, which, as you might be aware, will be nearly triple the size of our current location.
This new space will allow us to offer significantly enhanced services, including dedicated programming spaces, state-of-the-art technology, and an expanded collection of resources. These improvements are geared toward providing our community with a more robust and dynamic library experience.
Given the complexities involved in moving and setting up a new library — from safely packing and transporting thousands of books to installing and testing new technological systems — the process is indeed extensive. Additionally, we are coordinating with construction timelines that are unfortunately beyond our control, further necessitating this duration of closure.
However, we have planned several initiatives to continue serving the community during this transition. Our “Librarians on the Loose” programs will bring library services into the community at various locations throughout the summer. We are also launching a new app that will support both summer reading programs and digital lending, making it easy for adults and children alike to participate in library activities remotely. Furthermore, we’ve temporarily increased borrowing limits, starting June 1st, to 100 items, with an extended return deadline until the end of September to ensure that our members have plenty of reading material during the closure.
We are committed to keeping the public informed every step of the way and will share regular updates through our website, social media channels, and direct communications. We also welcome any suggestions or concerns you might have during this period of transition. Thank you for your understanding and support as we embark on this exciting journey to bring a new and improved Bracebridge Library to our community. We look forward to welcoming you to our new home and are confident that the future benefits will far outweigh the temporary inconvenience
