Please remember to bring your Bracebridge Library card whenever you visit the library.

Your library card must be renewed yearly around the date it was originally registered. If you are unsure when you have to renew your card, ask library staff.

Membership eligibility

Permanent residents and property owners in the District of Muskoka are eligible for a free Bracebridge Library card. Children younger than 14 years of age are also eligible for a free library card, but require a parent or guardian to sign up with them.

Residents of Muskoka

Residents of Muskoka need to show photo identification and proof of their address.

Property owners in Muskoka

Individuals who own property in Muskoka must show photo identification, proof of their home address, and proof that they own property in Muskoka. Examples of accepted documentation include a recent tax or utility bill with the applicant’s name on it.

Non-resident students at Georgian College or another school in the District of Muskoka

Anyone who attend school in Muskoka is eligible for a free library card, even if they do not live in the the district. Students must show proof of their current address and a student card with a photo when signing up.

Non-residents

Non-resident membership can be purchased for a $50 annual fee or $25 for 6 months. Photo identification and proof of home address are required when signing up.

Guest passes for computer or internet use only are available for free with photo identification.


What will be accepted for photo identification and proof of address?

Photo identification with current address (no other identification required):

Photo identification without proof of address (proof of address still required):

Borrowing materials

Anyone with a valid Bracebridge Library card may check out a maximum of 25 items. For new material, patrons can check out up to 5 new books and 2 new DVDs.

Loan periods:

  • DVDs and video games: 1 week (maximum of 12 per card)
  • Books (print and audio books): 3 weeks
  • Magazines: 3 weeks

Borrowed material may be renewed twice, with the exception of new materials or anything that is on hold for another library patron.

Material can be renewed online, over the phone, or in person.

Holds

A hold may be placed on materials in the Bracebridge Library’s collection. It can be done online, over the phone, or in person.

When an item on hold is available, library staff will reach out. The item must be picked up within 3 days of it becoming available.

Returning books

Books borrowed from the Bracebridge Library can be returned use one of the two 24/7 book return slots located at either entrance to the library or by dropping the material off during regular business hours.

Fines and fees

Overdue fines: As of March 2023, the Bracebridge Library eliminated overdue fines! Any outstanding overdue fines were removed from all accounts.

However, patrons accept full responsibility for all material they borrow which includes fines for lost or damaged items.

Replacing a library card

Lost or damaged Bracebridge Library cards can be replaced for a $3 fee.

If a library card is stolen, call the Bracebridge Library as soon as possible to prevent unauthorized use.
